| Title: | First Bleach Movie |
| Series Name: | Bleach - Memories Of Nobody |
| Score: | 7 - Good |
| Description: | I've recently become a Bleach fan and decided to check out the movies for the series. Synopsis: Unidentified spirits begin appearing in Karakura Town. A mysterious Soul Reaper who calls herself Senna appears and begins destroying the spirits. Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki confront her about the situation, but she refuses to answer any questions and leaves. Ichigo follows her while Rukia searches for answers. Ichigo meets up with Tōshirō Hitsugaya and Rangiku Matsumoto at the Urahara Shop, who have been sent to earth to investigate why the real world is suddenly appearing as a reflection in the sky in Soul Society. Animation: 9/10 The animation is very high quality. Everything from the fighting moves to the malls are extremely well animated. Storyline: 7/10 A bit hard to follow at first. One problem I had with the movie is the depressing theme it had throughout. This movie does not do a good job of capturing the series' usual lightheartedness. Even Rukia's horrible drawings do little to explain the situation and what's happening. How do memories take the shape of a person? And why does that person happen to be a 15 year old school girl? Character Development: ?/10 I'm a bit undecided how to score this block. Because it's a movie that's part of an already established series the existing characters are already very well developed. Bleach is a particular favorite series of mine because the characters in it are so well developed. However, the movie does not shed any further light onto the existing characters. Ichigo is still the same, Rukia is still the same. They don't move forward any. This leaves the development for the characters introduced in the movie. There's about five or six villains, their development is a tad non-existent. That leaves Senna, the centerpiece of the film, the Memory Rosary as it were. She has a decent level of development considering the limited amount of time the movie could spend on developing her. It's a little unexplained how Ichigo could care for her so much having spent so little time with her, but I suppose Ichigo is a sucker for a schoolgirl uniform. Overall Score: 7/10 The movie is worth watching but I wouldn't drop any appointments to go see it. If you're a fan of Bleach go ahead, if you're unfamiliar with the series skip it, it won't make any sense to you. The movie certainly has a depressing mood most of the way through, which is not in keeping with Bleach tradition. I liked Senna's character very much, but the circumstances surrounding her introduction and removal are all sort of contrived and a little on the sad side. |
